Uschi the Weimaraner

We take Uschi for a short walk in the evening.  She has recently discovered a pet rabbit behind a fence that we pass.  She can almost touch his nose and is absolutely fascinated!  Unfortunately she pulls on her lead until she gets to see the rabbit… come on dad, hurry up!!!

Uschi and us have been coming to terms with the recent news that she has osteoarthritis in her foreleg.  It was a bit of a shock, she’s only 5 years old.  The restrictions on walking (short lead walks only) are the worst thing about it.  However, we are thinking of new ways of entertaining Uschi, and going places where we can sit and enjoy the good weather we are having at the moment and watch the world go by!

Today has not been a good day though, Uschi is obviously getting some discomfort from her leg, caused by pulling on her lead to try and get near a cat!  Unfortunately she doesn’t know how to limit herself.

Anyway, she found a comfy spot when she got back and has been resting since

We’re all a bit fed up at the moment. Uschi has been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in the knee joint in her front left leg.  We originally thought she had pulled her shoulder muscle, but investigations showed the osteoarthritis in her knee.

Walks from now on are short and lead only.  We’re very upset, she loves running off-lead and we love taking her for walks in all sorts of places.  It feels very unfair but we’ll continue to do our best for her and hope that she continues to enjoy life despite the restrictions.

Poor Uschi has hurt her shoulder this week! The vet has ordered very short lead-only walks. Poor Uschi just doesn’t understand why and is looking very sad. Even wrapping her in her blanket doesn’t help

Weims are made for long walks with lots of dashing about.

It’s been snowing here today which meant the golf course was shut and we could sneak a walk on it! We always think golf courses would be so much better as parks anyway…
