Drinking habits

Whoops. It has been a very long time since my last post… must try harder!

It is very warm today so we have been making sure Uschi has plenty to drink…

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to all our blog readers!  We hope you have a wonderful festive period and that our canine friends get lots of Jumbones and Wonky Chomps in their stockings!

Uschi loves Christmas, she takes it very seriously 😉

Visit to the vets

Uschi has been to the vets this week. She has a lump on her toe which we had a small sample taken from, but the results were inconclusive. So we scheduled her in at the vets to have two lumps removed, one from her shoulder and the one on her toe. We hear back next week about the tissue analysis.

She’s been feeling a bit tired and is quieter than normal but she’s getting back to her normal lively self 🙂

Uschi has lots of favourite foods! Her top 5 foods are:

  1. apples
  2. pears
  3. salmon
  4. cheese
  5. Pedigree Jumbones

She will sit by the fruit bowl and do this:

Uschi has typically been a fussy eater but recently we got to try a sample of some new dog food. Now, it is rather expensive at around £50 a 12.5kg bag, more than double the price of the foods that we had been giving Uschi. However, it was remarkable how different Uschi was with this new food.

As soon as this was delivered she was sniffing the cardboard box it was packaged in, as I opened the box and got the bag out she was very interested indeed and she was very excited as we opened up the bag! Uschi can be very picky with new things, so I wasn’t expecting her to be that interested once the food was in her bowl. Yet she ate the whole lot! This is really unusual, she’s normally a grazer and sometimes has to be tempted into eating her food with adding things in like tuna.

The composition of the food is excellent and it’s much better quality than the standard with a very long list of ingredients. The “Estate Living” variety includes: Acai berries, alfalfa, apples, blueberries, carrots, cauliflower, chicken, cranberries, eggs, ginger, ginseng, green tea, lamb, linseed, marigold, mulberries, oranges, pears, peas, potatoes, probiotics, rosemary, seaweed, spinach, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, red & fallow deer and vitamins/minerals. The crude protein content is high at 30% (compared to our current cheaper food which is about 18%).

It only appears to be available from Amazon.co.uk and there are several varieties:
Estate Living (deer, lamb and chicken as the main ingredients)
Superior Living (duck, chicken and trout)
Nautical Living (Salmon, trout and herring)
The Beginning (for dogs up to 10-12 months)
The Beginning Large Dog (for large breeds up to 13-28 months)

We really recommend it because Uschi loves it so much and we’ve had no episodes of bad tummies since she started it.  We’re only disappointed that it’s so expensive!

Well I’m not doing very well at updating Uschi’s blog! After an accident where I broke some bones earlier this year I’ve been spending a lot of time at hospital appointments and have let things like this drop off my list of things to do.

Uschi is doing well and rushing around as usual.  Of course, all that rushing around needs lots of recovery time:
