Uschi is recuperating well from her operation. She has a check-up with the vet tomorrow. Today she has been enjoying some sunshine in the garden

Naughty Patient

Uschi is very naughty. She’s not allowed on the sofa because she shouldn’t jump about on her leg. I turned my back for one moment to go in the kitchen and didn’t even hear her move but when I turned back she was on the sofa giving me this naughty look!

Operation Uschi

Well it finally became time for Uschi to have an orthopaedic operation on her leg. She had the operation on Thursday and came home the next day. She’s had the degraded joint cleaned out and a bone graft placed in the joint spaces with a metal plate and screws put in to stabilise the joint. It now needs to heal and new bone to grow over the next 6 weeks.

She’s obviously uncomfortable but doesn’t seem to be in too much distress. For the next 6 weeks she’s got be kept quiet and rested as much as possible. No walks and only allowed outside for toileting. The bandaging needs to be kept dry at all times, so it needs to be wrapped in plastic on each visit to the garden. It’s going to be a long 6 weeks for us all!

We think that Uschi will be having an operation on her leg soon, so we will keep you updated as things happen. It’ll be a horrible thing for her to recover from but afterwards she should be able to get back to normal walks. It should be well worth it

Just a quick post

Sorry I’ve been rubbish at keeping Uschi’s blog updated recently!

We visited family in Merseyside over Christmas and let Uschi have a run on the beach. Her left foreleg is still a problem with the osteoarthritis but occasional walks off-lead don’t seem to cause too much of a problem for her

This is us on Christmas morning after our early walk that started just as the sun was rising

And this was a couple of days later on another walk at the same beach

You can see how bent the joint is in her left foreleg in the last shot, but at least she can still enjoy an occasional run on the beach! We are still expecting for her to need an operation to stabilise the joint in the future, but for now she is coping OK

Poorly Tummy

Uschi is a bit fed up today, she’s got a poorly tummy and is refusing to eat any food. She loves being wrapped in a blanket when she’s feeling sorry for herself!
