We always told Otto to 'forget it, Buster' when he eyed up the garlic bread and, wouldn't you know it, one day stumbled on the way to the kitchen, dropped the bread and made one Weimaraner very happy; albeit with a somewhat piquant breath for a few days. So, keep up your cheery smile. You are doing everything just right. And you will get your reward. Just stay away from chocolate and nuts. But that's another story...
